Coming of Age

Dear Friends,

“Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. But three times, there is something happening.” – to paraphrase Ian Fleming from his James Bond novel “Goldfinger”. We at JCIS are indeed happy to inform you that we are moving into our third year and something indeed is happening.

As we enter our third year, I am very happy to share with you the continued success of the journal. On completing our first year, I had described our mission of having a global reach and serving radiologists and medical practitioners worldwide being accomplished through this open access platform. I can now say with confidence that we have indeed accomplished it to a large degree and will move forward with undiminished enthusiasm in future.

During the 2012 from January 1 to December 5, the journal had 76,000 online visitors as compared with 25,979 visitors in the year 2011. This is a most creditable jump in readership for an online medical journal, being a nearly 3-fold increase. This has been possible due entirely to you, the support readers of the journal. Currently, we are seeing over 8000 visitors each month with an average of 285 visitors each day (compared with an average of 3000+ during the first year). Of these, 87% are new visitors, 13% are returning visitors. The traffic pattern shows 13% direct visits, 32% referral visits, and 63% the result of fresh web searching by prospective visitors. The visitors are from 136 countries, with USA, India, UK, and Canada continuing to be in the top four.

We have maintained our very high publishing standards established last year for these imaging studies. The journal received 177 articles till December 15, 2012, and 77 articles have been published up to December 4, 2012. Significantly, Original articles (26), Review articles (8), and Case reports (119) have shown an increase over last year. I can state with conviction that the eminently satisfying work done by our highly recognized and capable editorial panel will continue to stand us in good stead as the flow of incoming articles increases in the coming months.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the reviewers for their hard work and valuable input. Their contribution has indeed set a high standard for the journal. I would be remiss if I did not express my sincere thanks to the readers who have seen merit in the journal articles.
